Doctor Who Questions

The soundtrack contributes a lot to the sequence as it creates different dimensions within the piece. for example when the backing soundtrack suddenly changes from high happy notes, to low dull and scary sounds we know something bad is going to happen.

The music in Doctor Who creates atmosphere as in some scenes the music is used to create a dark scary tone, so without it as a audience we would not feel the effect as much if the music was not there as it helps us understand more in death what is going to be occurring in the scene. In some cases it can also make it more of a realistic atmosphere as within the programme we hear noises of passing cats, birds and church bells indicating to us they are in a average normal environment, just like what we live in therefore it is very life like, so we can relate to it. These are all sound effects which are made very evident to us.

As the tones in the music are very low it creates a mood of unhappiness and upset, this linking in with the scene as currently someone has just been murdered. therefore you would not want to have a happy, lively background full of high notes as this would not work well together, creating a very strange atmosphere. However when the man is talking about his dreams and aspirations that he wants to achieve in his life suddenly the music changes from low to notes, to higher happier and softer notes, creating a sense of happiness and hope for the man.

These sounds link in with the sci-fi genre as

SICKEST ESSAY

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS FAILING US

Zavvi closing down means that you cant buy it physically so you will have to download it which will also mean it will create a bigger audience for digital illegal downloads. By having the price at a high it will deter people away and force them to illegally download. We have evidence as 70% of people now admit to downloading digitally instead of going to the shop. 49% of that is illegal downloads.  In my opinion I do not blame the 49% for downloading illegally as why should you be made to pay for it when you can download for free quickly and easily. People are drawn to illegal downloads because it is instant, free, eco-friendly and this is the peoples way of fighting back against the music industry for cheating us of our money. Downloading is more eco-friendly because it stops the lorries having to distribute the CDS from the warehouse to the shops, there will be less factories because you don’t need them for the production of packaging and there will be no packaging at all. Physical marketing within shops will not be needed, just social network and TV adverts. This will therefore save the company money consequently this should make them lower their prices as they can now afford it. If songs/CD’s are made cheaper then the audience reception will be better.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Mountain View, California, United States, devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share. The organisation has released several copyright-licenses known as Creative Commons licenses free of charge to the public. These licenses allow creators to communicate which rights they reserve, and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. An easy-to-understand one-page explanation of rights, with associated visual symbols, explains the specifics of each Creative Commons license.

The digital Economy Bill

The Digital Economy Act 2010 (c. 24) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The act addresses media policy issues related to digital media, including copyright infringement, Internet domain name. The most controversial part of the Digital Economy Act is that which addresses copyright infringement, and in this regard, it has been challenged in the High Court under a judicial review.
The Act - An Act to make provision about the functions of the Office of Communications; to make provision about the online infringement of copyright and about penalties for infringement of copyright and performers’ rights; to make provision about internet domain registries; to make provision about the functions of the Channel Four Television Corporation; to make provision about the regulation of television and radio services; to make provision about the regulation of the use of the electromagnetic spectrum; to amend the Video Recordings Act 1984; to make provision about public lending right in relation to electronic publications; and for connected purposes.

Pirate Bay Trial
The Pirate Bay trial is a joint criminal and civil prosecution in Sweden of four individuals charged for promoting the copyright infringement of others with the torrent tracking website The Pirate Bay.
Swedish prosecutors filed charges on 31 January 2008 against Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm, and Peter Sunde, who ran the site; and Carl Lundström, a Swedish businessman who through his businesses sold services to the site. The prosecutor claimed the four worked together to administer, host, and develop the site and thereby facilitated other people's breach of copyright law. Some 34 cases of copyright infringements were originally listed, of which 21 were related to music files, 9 to movies, and 4 to games.

Spotify
Spotify is a commercial music streaming service providing digital rights management-restricted content from record labels including Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group and Universal. Launched in October 2008 by Swedish startup Spotify AB, the service had approximately 10 million users as of 15 September 2010 about 2.5 million of whom were paying users. Total users reached 20 million by December 2012, 5 million of whom pay a monthly subscription fee that varies based on locale. As of December 2013, free Spotify music streaming is now available on all mobile devices, and on desktop computers for unlimited durations. The Music on spotify can be browsed by artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label, as well as by direct searches. On computers, a link allows the listener to purchase selected material via partner retailers.

·      DRM (Digital Rights Management)- it is the practice of imposing technological restrictions that control what users can do with digital media.

·      The agreement between BPI and six major UK Internet providers to caution illegal downloaders.- these providers were Virgin, BT, Sky, Orange, Tiscali and Carphone Warehouse. They all agreed to send advisory letters to those who had illegally downloaded. They were also working with OfCom to work out what to do about serial offenders.

·      New Deals- Recently record companies have been talking to media providers about creating new bundles or collections of media services packaged together to be sold for a monthly subscription. These bundles would include TV and Broadband and legal unlimited downloads. However both Sky and Virgin who were looking at this approach are believed to have stumbled because major labels did not think they would generate enough money from agreeing t be part of such a service.

·      Earlier release dates- Record complaints used to release new music on the radio up to 6 weeks in advance of releasing it in a format that people could buy. Many are now releasing it to buy the same day they release it to be played on the radio. They hope this will stop people wanting to own the music so much that they have to resort to illegal downloads when they are actually willing to pay for it.

Sierra

Sierra Seville

I think that sierra should go on TV shows such as Soccer AM as this is what a lot of men watch who would be interested in her. Also I think she should go on shows such as Jonathon Ross as this has a very wide audience from adults and teenagers, both men and women. Also i would expect her to be on shows such as 'Celebrity juice' to show to the general public that Sierra has a sense of humour and sop also people can perceive her in a different view as you can be very fun and yourself on this programme.

I think she should most probably have her own lingerie line in shops like Boux Avenue and New Look, as these shops are ones which have celebrity lines. Also as Sierra has a very nice figure it attracts the ‘male gaze’.  Women who are looking for underwear may see how great Sierra looks in it and therefore may want to then buy it as they may feel like they can look the same way too wearing it.

I think she should be on the adverts for holiday destination with airlines such as Thomas Cook because here she can be shot wearing bikinis on beaches, which will interest many viewers.

Also she could have her own perfume which young  girls/young adults would be interested in.

Also i think she should be featured in magazines such as 'Hello' and 'Ok' where a lot of celebrities are featured in and get a lot of publicity from.  She could feature on the front page, therefore when people go to pick up the magazine the first thing they will notice is Sierra.

As i believe that Sierra is going to be a very famous and big pop star within the music industry i would therefore expect her to be performing in big arenas around the UK such as the 02 and Wembley Stadium

Also i would like for Sierra to have collaborations with Miley Cyrus and Pitbull. This is because her and Miley are of a similar character as they both wear provocative clothing and like to 'twerk'. For Pitbull i would like them to collaborate as he is very successful and a lot of other women similar to Sierra have done the same.

Although Sierra may come across as very 'wild' and particularly like a 'party animal' type girl, she does however have a close charity to her heart. This charity is 'Autistica' as she has a little brother who suffers from it. Sierra in the past has done concerts for the charity in the hope to raise money, she has done it from the good of her heart and therefore keeps no money from it at all. She also hopes to do more fundraisers in the future and regularly gives helpful donations. This has therefore made her form part of the board of the charity.

For the future I hope for Sierra to be touring with artists such as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Kesha. This is as I feel Sierra can relate to these girls as they are all very individual in the way they look, dress and sing. Also Sierra is a 'party lover' and likes going out and having fun which all these women do too so I believe they would be great for her to work with.

Sierra is going to have a website, for the design on the website i would like it to be quite 'indie' looking. I would like the colour scheme to appear very old looking and vintage. The colours should be quite dark but i would like as a effect to add a bit of sparkle add glitter to create a contrast. Sierra would have links to her youtube channel on her website where she regularly uploads video blogs explaining about what she has been doing lately and what she will be up to in the future (to keep her fans aware).

Synergy

An example of this in the music industry would be for example Little Mix are only just a band yet however have lots of other strings of merchandise coming from them. For example they have clothes, bags, dolls, toothbrushes etc.

Most of the money the band would make would most likely come from the merchandise they are selling. This would all be sold in shops such as: Argos, Asda, and many Toy Shops.

Little mix's album would be the main starting point however spiralling from this comes all of the other things i.e merchandise.

Little Mix would team up with companies to create all of this. Making them extreme amounts of money.

Convergence

Costume hair and makeup
·      Little Britain  - Vicky Pollard.
Wears a bright pink tracksuit which signifies her being a chav therefore getting her personality to come across more and she is extremely chavvy. Also having greasy hair and a lot of cheap makeup slapped on her face makes her seem more like she doesn’t care about her appearance and what she acts like.  Also her scrunchie adds to the effect of being a chav.

Little Britian - Marjorie
Dresses very smart and posh, very discreet and emaculate hair and makeup. To match her stuckup and posh attitude and personality.
